When are Red Hot Chili Peppers NOT on the radio?

Because there is NEVER A TIME WHEN RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS AREN’T PLAYING ON THE RADIO.

Perhaps this is Southern California specific, but there is never a day on which I drive into work and don’t flip the channel to one of their inane ditties.  AND MY DRIVE TO WORK IS 5 MINUTES.

They are on KROQ.  They are on 98.7. They are on KIIS. They are on Jack FM.  They are on My FM.  They are on all those random 100ish stations that play The Doors a lot.  They are in the background on NPR (ok…maybe they are.  NPR voices are too soothing; I can’t listen in good conscious for risk of falling asleep and getting a DUINPR.  Yup. That’s the reason I listen to Ryan Seacrest).  They even invade my beloved Love Songs on the KOST.  Come on, Karen Sharp: you’re better than that.  Love Rollercoaster is hardly a Love song on the KOST.

Enough!

Maybe I just don’t get it.  What is with the Red Hot Chili Peppers? How many songs about California can one band write?  How can a song where the main lyrics are “Hey oh, listen what I say, oh Come back and hey oh, look at what I say, oh.  The more I see, the less I know, The more I like to let it go, Hey oh, whoa” be appropriate for radio stations of ALL formats?
